Knights to Shave Their Heads to Support Childhood Cancer Research
St. Baldrick's Foundation event to raise money for lifesaving research
East Northport – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Miller’s Commack Ale House in the Target Shopping Center on Vets Highway Sunday, March 8th (12:00 noon – 6:00 PM), where volunteer “Shavees” will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to Conquer Childhood Cancers!
The Fr. Thomas A. Judge Knights of Columbus team is just one of several teams that have been formed to maximize their fund raising efforts. With just a few weeks to go they’re well on their way to reaching their goal of $8,500! If you would like to make a donation on their heads, please visit their St. Baldrick’s website at http://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/FrJudgeKofC2020 and click on “Donate” or call team Captain Bob Slingo at (631) 486-2875. Traditionally, the Fr. Judge K of C team has led the way in raising funds at this event and over the last thirteen years they’ve raised more than $100,000!
Why all the shaved heads? Every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and in the U.S. one in five kids diagnosed won’t survive. Those who do survive often suffer long-term effects from treatments too harsh for their developing bodies. As the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, St. Baldrick's is leading the charge to take childhood back from cancer. From its beginnings, St. Baldrick’s has believed that kids deserve the chance to be kids – fun-loving, carefree, refreshingly honest, and always a little goofy – and deserve the chance at a healthy future. That’s why donations raised at events like this have made it possible for St. Baldrick’s to fund more than $282 million to support the best childhood cancer research, wherever it takes place.
