Last Chance: Northport and Elwood Library Elections
Polls are open until 9 p.m. on the budget and the board of trustees for both library districts.

Both the Northport-East Northport and Elwood public libraries are holding a vote on their respective 2012-13 budgets and open trustee seats. Polls in both districts are open until 9 p.m.
Anyone who is a resident of the corresponding school districts for at least 30 days and is registered as a voter may vote. If you have not voted within four years in a general, school, or library election, registration is required.

One open trustee seat is up for grabs as a result of the expiration of the term of office presently held by Andrea Gladding. Challenger Jacqueline Elsas is running against Gladding for the five year term which begins on July 1, 2012.
The Library’s proposed budget for 2012-2013 has increased 1.82 percent. The estimated increase in the tax rate is $0.24 per $100 assessed valuation which, based on a $4,000 assessment, amounts to $9.60 for the year per household. This amount is less than the property tax levy limit set by New York State for the library.

Elwood Public Library
Incumbent Trustee Susanne Lercher is running for another five year term.
The proposed 2012-2013 budget includes the amount of $1,430,088.50 to be raised by taxation, which represents a 1.9 percent increase over last year. This means that for a property assessed at the middle tax rate, $4000, the tax increase, if the budget is approved, would be six dollars and forty cents per year ($6.40).
