Maltese's Platform to pull LIPA into State Compliance

Maryann Maltese, East Northport Resident-and announced candidate for NYS Assembly 12th AD-supports the Governor Cuomo's decision to heavily question leaders of PSEG LI on storm response and supports the State's decision to consider termination of PSEG Long Island's contract with LIPA if the investigation deems it appropriate.

It's high time for NYS to step in and monitor LIPA property as they're not in compliance with State Permits to operate their business generally speaking.

All LIPA properties have different contractual agreements with NYS or with local municipalities to operate on the property. The section of the LI Sound or as I call it the Swamp- where Northport LIPA is situated on whereas I bet there is no "flushing tunnel" for water circulation to help remove pollution that obviously is there-that is a sin, said Maryann Maltese.

Dredging that area, capping it and or installing Flushing Tunnels are some of the ways to ensure Environmental Habitat, residences surrounding Northport LIPA, Town usage of ballfields behind Northport LIPA, the Boat Launch, the beaches are safe for public usage. Perhaps installation of Flushing Tunnels or devices to keep the water-or the swamp at its operative best is something NYS can require LIPA to do going forward, said Maltese. We live with LIPA Northport-and it's time to require LIPA installs all the most up to date and advanced NYS DEC recommended or state mandated Environmentally friendly engineering technology to keep us all healthy and safe, said Maltese. I'll ensure this occurs in Albany in the next session 2021-because we haven't had NYS representation in NYS Assembly offices for Huntington for a quite a long time.

I strongly recommend that if these recognized processes by NYS DEC and NYS DOH are not being fully utilized at Northport LIPA location that NYS will do so. said Maryann Maltese. I will be introducing the bill along with the State Senator's to ensure the toughest rules going forward for the LIPA Northport Property and for NYS to mediate Budgetary solution-it's clear that the Township of Huntington has not kept their eyes wide open, said Maryann Maltese. Two present high ranking Huntington Township Executive Leaders (Lupinacci and Raia), both former NYS Assembly Members quite frankly during their reigns in State Government could have introduced better bills regulating Northport LIPA or Legislation that was more Township Government Business Contractual Friendly with the School Districts as part of the process-said Maltese.

One would need to be completely brain dead-not to realize that after the most recent Court Settlement between LIPA and Township of Huntington, said Maryann Maltese. Quite Frankly-the settlement offered-is not in the Townships best interests at all.

Maryann Maltese, Former Regional Communications Manager for NYS Legislature worked on a number of LIPA oriented enforcement policy matters and dredging/capping projects where necessary. I completely recommend that a Full Environmental Impact Statement Study by NYS DEC and the other various agencies be conducted immediately at the Northport LIPA Property now-especially since limited residents have limited themselves from using and enjoying Township Beaches or the Boat Ramp behind the LIPA Northport Complex due to Social Distancing requirements. By conducting the Environmental Impact Statement or review of Existing work permits that NYS issues to LIPA- inspectors will surely get a true reading of what the levels of pollutants are and who (LIPA) is accountable the accuracy and usage of the area-and then implement how and when perhaps LIPA is responsible for Environmental cleanups, or installing Flushing Tunnels to keep the surrounding habitat and residential areas safe from potential harmful pollutants, said Maryann Maltese. The LI Sound or swamp location of it right behind the LIPA Northport has been stagnant for 5 months since police ordered Social Distancing rules are in place-and I feel that the Community and the Township will get a true environmental indicator as to what needs to be discussed and/or cleaned up in the next roundtable business contractual discussions and/or State Environmental Clean-ups by LIPA, said Maltese.
