A 22-year-old man was airlifted to a local hospital after police say he took off the top layer of his fingers and hand in a construction accident Friday afternoon in Northport.
According to authorities, the man was working on a home on Maple Avenue when he shaved off about one-eighth of an inch of his hand while using a power planer at 1:47 p.m.
Northport Fire and Rescue transported the man to Ocean Avenue School where he was then taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Police helicopter to be treated for traumatic injuries.
