Man Shot Dead On Long Island After Confronting Officers With Swords: Police

The man, brandishing swords, charged at police officers who entered the home after he refused to go outside, police say.

ELWOOD, NY — An Elwood man was fatally shot by a Suffolk police officer on Tuesday night after police said he confronted two officers with swords while they were responding to a home.

A neighbor called Second Precinct officers to Mander Lane around 8:45 p.m. to report a man acting violent inside a home, police said. Alan Weber, 54, a resident of the home, refused to leave the house when officers arrived four minutes later, police said.

The officers found the home in disarray and heard noises coming from the basement, police said. The officers went downstairs and found Weber, who was alone in the house, police said. Weber was wearing a fencing mask and holding two fencing swords, police said. The officers ordered Weber to drop the swords, but he refused, police said.
