CENTERPORT, NY — A man stuck in mud was rescued by Centerport firefighters on Friday morning, according to public information officer Steve Silverman.

Local residents alerted the Centerport Fire Department that a man was trapped in the mud off Centerport Beach at the end of Little Neck Road around 7:30 a.m. Firefighters found the man stuck up to his waist in mud about 50-feet off shore in Centerport Harbor.

Firefighters donned waterproof Mustang water rescue suits and used shovels and oars to dig the man out by loosening up the mud around him. They placed a life safety vest around him to keep him safe during the rescue operation, and used a rope to pull him out to safety. The man, who was going out clamming, was not injured, according to the fire department.
