Maryann Maltese send request to LIRR on Old Bridge East Northport

Maryann Maltese, community resident, fitness and cyclist enthusiast and candidate for NYS Assembly 12th AD sends MTA LIRR a request concerning pedestrian safety improvements of the Old Bridge Pedestrian Over-pass @ the intersection of Pulaski Road and along the perimeter of LIRR tracks.

"The Old Bridge Overpass traffic regulating signage of "No Parking any time, or Caution for drivers to be aware of Pedestrian usage of the Bridge are faded or covered with overgrowth brush and need to be attended to immediately. This request is doable in the immediate future to ensure the safest pedestrian crossing possible and usage by cyclists that ride over the over pass to go to school or to continue on their fitness journey to nearby Veterans Park in East Northport, Huntington", said Maryann Maltese

Also, adjacent to Veterans Park Entrance Bellerose; the Safety regulating signages have faded, or brush overgrowth blocks important safety measures which abuts the LIRR tracks and drivers get distracted, said Maryann Maltese

"I also believe the installation of additional safety fencing on the overpass needs to be installed on the opposite side of the overpass because safety fencing is already installed on the other side of the Overpass. I realize my request is for fencing upgrades, which requires earmarking State capital project monies towards-and most likely that request hasn't occurred this NYS DOT Calendar year, but we are moving on this issue now", said Maryann Maltese. The Township of Huntington has provided some Transportation assistance, but the Pedestrian Overpass of LIRR tracks also is under the jurisdiction of New York State and modifications of such, can be authorized by NYS. The NYS Legislature is responsible to secure transportation dollars for such safety improvements and I'm in support of my request as this location is heavily utilized by local residents.

"Many bike cyclist's travel across Old Bridge to gain Access to Veterans Park or MeadowLark Mountain Bike trail and its time for the MTA LIRR to take a look at the Overpass location as it's State's responsibility to do so", said Maryann. This overpass is surrounded by residential community residents and is also a direct route for my cyclists and student pedestrians to get to and from school. Making these safety modifications will keep the Pedestrian Overpass safe and cleaning the brush and replacing faded unreadable signage is warranted, said Maltese

Maryann Maltese; helped to secure Multi-modal transportation funding for NYS transportation projects and LIRR railroad upgrades including bill languages that required NYS to have better visual/hearing pedestrian LIRR crossing signage at pedestrian train track locations statewide. Maryann has 18 years of NYS Regional experiences to back up her candidacy for NYS Assembly with direct successful results.
