Middle Schooler From East Northport Honored For Academic Excellence

She was among the brightest students in the world to receive this honor.

An East Northport resident was recently recognized for her academic excellence in the CTY Talent Search, which is sponsored by Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY).

Rithika Narayan, a students at Elwood Middle School, was among the brightest students in the world to receive this honor. Approximately 27,000 students from more than 65 countries participated in the CTY Talent Search between March 2016 and February 2017. Only 25 percent of participants earned the High Honors designation.

Narayan received this honor for scoring exceptionally high on an above-grade-level test.

"We congratulate all of our CTY Talent Search honorees for the hard work and academic achievements," Elaine Tuttle Hansen, executive director of CTY, said in a press release. "This is a moment not just to celebrate our students, but to honor the parents an educators who recognized their academic talent and provided them with opportunities to develop it."

More than 6,7000 participants were invited to the award ceremonies this spring that were held in the United States and Hong Kong, China.

Most of these students also qualified for CTY's summer and online courses.

As part of the CTY Talent Search, students ranging from second to eighth grade take the SAT or ACT, and may even take advanced version of the School and College Ability Test (SCT) or the Spatial Test Battery (STB). Younger students may also take the SCAT, STB, or PSAT 8/9.
