Morning Fire Breaks Out in Scudder Ave. Home

No injuries were reported as Northport Fire Department responded quickly

Northport Fire Department personnel responded to a house fire Monday, Oct. 11 at 43 Scudder Avenue, a four-unit apartment building owned by Frank Cavagnaro.

The call came in at approximately 11:20 a.m. and the fire alarm was sounded.

The fire department quickly closed off Scudder from Woodbine Avenue to Union Place and firefighters entered the second-floor apartment as a crowd gathered on the street. The source of the fire was found to be a portable charcoal grill that had been lit in the house. The firefighters threw the grill out of the second-floor window then chopped out a part of the wood structure and watered it down to be sure the fire hadn't spread.

Both Suffolk County and Northport police also responded.
