Almost immediately after the Parks Department replaced the two picnic tables just outside of the restrooms, they were vandalized.
"The picnic tables in the playground area were vandalized right after they were replaced with new wood," confirmed Northport Village Trustee Damon McMullen. "The damaged area can be painted over."
"They were made out of cedar so they could have just aged naturally," said Parks Department Senior Groundskeeper Billy Forster.

Vandals used permanent magic markers to write on the tabletops and a sharp object to carve in to wood, writing such things as their names and initials.
"I tell them they're on [surveillance] cameras," Forster said. "But they did it anyway."

Forster was forced to paint over the tabletops with black paint. The vandals then began defacing the benches.
