Northport Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Oreo
Oreo is a 2-year-old female cat. "She is still very timid, but once she trusts, she LOVES to be pet and get belly rubs."

NORTHPORT, NY — Oreo, a 2-year-old female cat, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week.
Oreo is a beautiful cat, says Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. Oreo spent three months hiding behind a wall in an empty apartment coming out only to eat because some kind neighbors would leave out food for her, Wild said. The Northport Cat Rescue Association finally was able to trap her and bring her to safety, according to Wild. She has been in foster care for quite a while since.
"She is still very timid, but once she trusts, she LOVES to be pet and get belly rubs," Wild said. "She loves to look out a window. She loves to just be part of a home."

She has a boyfriend in the same foster home, according to Wild. His name is Costello.
"He loves her and she adores him," Wild said. "Costello is FIV positive, Oreo is not. The only way to contract it is CAT TO CAT and ONLY through a deep bite wound, or occasionally from mom cat to baby cat through nursing. Not through casual contact. Costello does not have a mean bone in his body. It is a misconception that an FIV-positive diagnosis is deadly. Typically there is no difference between the lifespan of FIV-positive and FIV-negative cats, and it doesn’t come with life-threatening effects."

Costello is a mush, Wild said. He is healthy.
"He has so much love to give, and is just as deserving of a loving forever home as any other cat," she said.
Oreo and Costello cuddle together, share food, and share litter boxes. Where he is, she is, according to Wild.

"Here is the problem. Because potential adopters fear the FIV + diagnosis, it is truly difficult to find an adopter for Costello. Unfortunately, trying to get Oreo and Costello adopted together has proven to be nearly impossible. So, we have made the difficult decision to put Oreo up for adoption on her own. She deserves a loving family and home of her own. They both do. These 2 are the faces of rescue. Truly in need of a special miracle to be kept together, but willing to accept their fate of being split up if they are both adopted by a loving family.
"Costello would want that for Oreo," Wild continued. "That’s how much he cares for her. So, here she is… Beautiful Oreo."
They are both spayed or neutered, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV negative.
Costello is FIV+ while Oreo is negative.
The Northport Cat Rescue Association says it will be at Cow Harbor Day on Sunday.
