Northport Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Julius And Sidney

Julius and Sidney were found on the side of the road in Brentwood, and they watched their sister get adopted. They still await their homes.

NORTHPORT, NY — Julius and Sidney, 16-week-old bonded brothers were named the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week.

"Julius and Sidney have had some rough beginnings," Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue, told Patch in an email. "They were found on the side of the road in Brentwood, watching over their sister Bessie, who had some broken bones as well as buckshot particles from a BB Gun in her. They never left her side, and when we rescued them, they watched after her while she heeled and went to foster care."

Bessie has been adopted by a family. However, Julius and Sidney are still waiting for their home.

Julius and Sidney have been overlooked, as the cat rescue's habitats and fosters are pretty full, according to Wild.

"As sweet and loving and adorable as they are, they seem to be spending their kittenhood in a cage," she said. "Julius loves to snuggle and get belly rubs and purrs so loudly there is no mistaking how much he adores cuddles. While Sidney is a bit on the shy side, he still manages to get himself into some silly situations, like stealing a meatball straight from your plate."

Wild called Julius and Sidney heroes.

"We are certain that Bessie would never have made it without them," Wild said. "We are hoping for a family for these boys before they get any older, so they can as kittens, know what it feels like to be safe and have love in a home of their own."

The Northport rescue is on a mission to empty out its habitats as well as its foster parents' homes over the next few weeks and get all of its felines adopted into forever homes.

"There are so many out there that still need rescuing, but at this point, we are almost at a standstill because adoptions have been down," Wild said. "We are asking the public for their help. If you were thinking about adding a fabulous furry family member to your home, now is the time! We know so much about our kittens and cats personalities due to our wonderful volunteers, that even if you do not see a kitten or a cat on our website, we can match you up with one!"

The cat rescue invites all to join from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Cobble Cat, at 196 Laurel Ave., Northport for its Kitten and Cat Adoption Event.

Julius and Sidney are neutered, have all their shots, are litter-box trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.

If you are interested in meeting Julius and Sidney, you can head to the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet them or any of the other kittens and cats.
