Ollie and Paws have a "heartbreaking" story. Would you like to adopt one of them?

NORTHPORT, NY — Paws, a 6-year-old grey female cat, and Ollie, a 2-year-old longhaired black male, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cats of the Week.

"Their story is heartbreaking," said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. "Both come from the same loving family. They lost both of their parents within months of each other. The remaining family members were just kids themselves and were unable to continue caring for Paws and Ollie, and so the difficult decision to surrender them to us was made.

"These two cats have lost so much over the past year," Wild continued. "They came to us frightened and confused. With patience and kindness, their wonderful and quirky personalities have come out."

They are not bonded, Wild said, and they do not care for each other too much. As a result, they do not have to be adopted together.

"What they do have in common is their desire for affection and to find a new forever home that will love them as much as their last," Wild said.

Paws has short, Russian blue-like fur. She is front claw declawed (her previous family rescued her that way). She is very petite and wants nothing more than to be held, sit on one's lap, or by one's side and love them. She is extremely vocal, and behaves like a little princess, according to Wild. When someone picks her up, she will wrap her arms around them and hug them. If she gets nervous, she will hide her head in their arm, but not run away. She has lived with other cats, and gets along fine with them, but would not mind being an only cat to get all the attention either. Since she does not have front claws, she would be best in a home with other sweet cats or as an only cat, Wild said.

Ollie is the silliest, quirkiest and sweetest boy ever, according to Wild. His gorgeous long hair is matched by his funny long legs. He plays in his water dish a lot, but the help of a special water feeder, which would go with him when adopted, stops him from making a mess. He is also vocal, loves to play and gets along with other cats. You can pick him up and give him hugs and kisses, and he loves it. Not a mean bone in his body, his facial expressions and adorable personality makes everyone who meets him fall in love with him, Wild said.

"Paws and Ollie are very special," Wild said. "They must have been very loved because they both have such sweet dispositions. Not only have they lost their home, but they have also lost their family. They need to be with families that can give them stability and make them feel safe and loved so that their loving and silly personalities shine. They are amazing and beautiful inside and out."

The Northport Cat Rescue Association is set to be at the East Northport Fair this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

They are both spayed and neutered, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
