NORTHPORT, NY — With Memorial Day coming up, the Town of Huntington announced several parades and/or events in the Northport area. Here is what residents can expect:
Sunday, May 29
What: Huntington Memorial Day Weekend Wreath Ceremony.
When: Noon May 29.
Where: Huntington Veterans Plaza, 100 Main St., Huntington (front lawn of Town Hall facing 25A).
Details: The public is invited to honor veterans in commemoration of Memorial Day. Wreaths will be placed at the World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, and Women’s Veteran Monuments and to honor our troops in the Middle East; Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

This year’s ceremony will honor World War II “Ghost Army Soldiers” of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops. This top-secret unit of 1,100 artists, designers and sound engineers accomplished a unique mission by staging elaborate ruses to divert the enemy.
Patriotic music will be performed by the Northport High School Choir, directed by Dana Warren. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Carol Rocco, coordinator of Veterans Affairs at crocco@huntingtonny.gov or 631-351-3012.

East Northport

Route: Larkfield and Clay Pitts northeast parking area, north on Larkfield Road to John Walsh Park in East Northport.
Centerport
Start time: 10 a.m.
Hosted by: Centerport Fire Department
Route: Assembles at the corner of Centershore Road and Mill Dam Road. Centershore Road, Harrison Drive, east on Mill Dam Road Centerport, southeast on Prospect Road, south on Little Neck Road. Ends at 9 Park Circle, Centerport.
Commack/Elwood
Start time: 10 a.m.

Route: Assembles at Home Depot southeast parking lot. East on Jericho Turnpike to Veteran’s Memorial (Cmdr. Fred Amore Canon Park) at Jericho Tpk. & Veteran’s Memorial Highway.
