Northport Board of Education to Appoint New Superintendent

Currently the human resources director at Wayne Central School District near Rochester, Robert Banzer is a Northport High School alum.

The Northport-East Northport School District is prepared to appoint Robert Banzer as its next superintendent of schools, pending contract finalization and final background checks.

Mr. Banzer, who is a graduate of Northport High School (Class of 1984), is currently the director of human resources in the Wayne Central School District, which is located outside of Rochester, NY.

“Our Board of Education is pleased to be able to identify Mr. Banzer as our unanimous selection,” said Board of Education President Julia Binger. “All of the finalists are outstanding professionals and we were delighted that they made this process a challenging one for the Board. Robert impressed us with his passion for education leadership, his knowledge and love of Northport-East Northport, and commitment to children and the educational community.”

Mr. Banzer holds a Masters degree from SUNY Albany, with a concentration in social studies teaching,and a Bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College, with a concentration in economics. He has also completed coursework for executive leadership from Creighton University.

In addition to his current position, Mr. Banzer’s administrative career includes six years as the assistant superintendent for Instruction at the Brockport Central School District, almost three years as middle school principal, and three years as assistant principal, all in Brockport. Mr. Banzer also was a classroom teacher in three different school districts since beginning his career in education in 1990. He has served as a football and baseball coach in three school districts and at the University at Albany.

Mr. Banzer was chosen from a pool of 28 candidates who applied for the position.

“Our search consultants – all community residents and education professionals who donated their time to lead this process – did an outstanding job in surfacing the finalists for this position, and we are grateful for their commitment and contributions,” Mrs. Binger said.

It is anticipated that contract finalization will take up to two weeks. The Board of Education looks forward to formally introducing Mr. Banzer to our community once the official appointment is made.
