Northport Eighth Grader Wins LI-Wide Poster Contest

Her poster will be on exhibit at the Long Island Children's Museum throughout the month of October.

A Northport Middle School student was chosen out of 165 entires to be named the first place winner of the Arts Alive Long Island 2015 Poster Contest.

Eighth grader Kathryn Fligstein’s winning poster will officially be a part of the 2015 Arts Alive LI Commemorative Poster Series and will be on exhibit at the Long Island Children’s Museum throughout the month of October.

“It is our hope that many of our region’s talented student artists will view this as an opportunity to participate in Arts Month and be featured in their first museum exhibition,” said Theresa Statz-Smith, the executive director of Long Island Arts Alliance.

Fligstein was also recently honored for her artwork at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.

All artwork entries were judged on which poster best represented Long Island. Fligstein was the first place winner of the grades 6-8 category. The contest was sponsored by the Long Island Arts Alliance.

Arts Alive LI 2015 is presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance with additional support from MSC Direct, Bloomingdale’s and by a grant awarded to the Long Island Arts Alliance by New York State’s Empire State Development and the I ♥ NY Division of Tourism under Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council Initiative.
