Northport HS Senior Chosen For Women In Technology Program
The program is run by BAE Systems Electronic Systems sector and focuses on female students with an aptitude for math and science.

NORTHPORT, NY — Soraya Basrai, a senior at Northport High School, was selected for Women in Technology, a program run by BAE Systems Electronic Systems sector, the school district announced. Soraya began the program this fall and is set to graduate in November.
Math teacher Kristen Rozell had shared the opportunity with her students, and Soraya applied in hopes of participating in external engineering experiences beyond what the high school offered. After completing the online application, she was notified of her selection and picked up her engineering kit to participate in the program, which is taking place virtually this year.
Soraya acknowledged that women have traditionally not been as prevalent in the engineering space and this led her to want to find more opportunities to explore the field, according to the district.
