Northport PD Blotter: Man Charged With DWI After Striking Parked Car

The man refused to take a chemical test, police say. ALSO: A possible credit card fraud was reported.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from April 1 through April 7.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Kevin Gutierrez, 28, of Amityville, was involved in a crash on Scudder Avenue around 9:55 p.m. April 2, police said. Police found a 2012 Infiniti with damage to the passenger side front end and Gutierrez standing outside his car, police said. Gutierrez's breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and thick, he was very unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly on two standardized field sobriety tests, police said. Gutierrez was unable to perform the one-leg stand because he was highly intoxicated, police said. Gutierrez had struck a 2011 Lexus parked on Laurel Avenue while traveling south, police said. The owner of the parked vehicle was notified, police said. Gutierrez refused to submit to a breath test, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Incidents

  • A visibly sick raccoon found on Duffy Court on April 2 was euthanized by police.
  • A summons was issued to the owner of a vehicle who parked it in a 10-minute parking zone on Main Street for an extended time while the alarm was going off on April 3.
  • A vehicle caught fire on Laurel Avenue on April 3.
  • A Fifth Avenue man reported a possible credit card fraud to police on April 4. The man told police he received a call from what he assumed to be Bank of America about a credit card application that had his name on it. The man said he gave his Discover credit card information to the person who called him to cancel the application. The man canceled his Discover credit card after the phone call because he was suspicious that it might be fraud. The man said he has not sustained any monetary loss as of April 4.
  • Several police called the department after the earthquake that originated in New Jersey around 10:25 a.m. April 5. There was no reported damage to village property or infrastructure, police said.
  • A woman fainted at So Q Nails & Beyond on April 5. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • Police were called to Ackerly Terrace on April 5 for a report of an argument over roadway access. Two people had an ongoing dispute over ownership and access to property on the road. The caller said his neighbor is blocking his driveway, keeping him from pulling into it. The driveway was not blocked but there was a utility mark-out truck on the street attempting to perform work, police said. Both parties were told by police to cooperate with each other until their pending property litigation has been mediated. They agreed.
  • Police responded to Fort Salonga Road for a possible road rage incident. The driver told the officer he had pulled over because he was lost and trying to get to Freeport. The officer, using a translator, pointed the driver in the right direction.
