Northport Police Blotter: 2 Drunken Drivers Arrested

ALSO: A postal worker tells police that a co-worker was illegally parking in handicapped spots.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent incidents from the Northport Village area, from Jan. 13 through Jan. 19.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

Arrests

  • [Name Withheld], 60, of Centerport, was involved in a car crash on Woodbine Avenue at 12:45 a.m. Jan. 13, police said. An officer interviewed [Name Withheld], who had a strong alcohol odor coming off her breath, police said. [Name Withheld] told the officer she was driving her 2017 Subaru and hit multiple parked cars while she was driving northbound on Woodbine, police said. She then performed badly on several field sobriety tests, police said, and was arrested and brought back to police headquarters, where she took a breath test. [Name Withheld] was charged with DWI, DWI: BAC reading and unsafe lane change on Jan. 13.
  • Frank Sposato, 26, of Centerport, was seen driving a 2014 Jeep while speeding in a posted zone on Fort Salonga Road at 2:23 a.m. Jan. 16, police said. Sposato's breath smelled of alcohol, police said, and he performed poorly on several field sobriety tests. Police say an investigation through EJustice revealed Sposato was driving the Jeep without an interlock device. He was arrested and brought to police headquarters, where he took a breath test, officers said. Sposato was charged with DWI: BAC reading (an E felony), speeding: posted zone, DWI (an E felony) and circumvention of interlock on Jan. 16.

  • A bag of pills was found on the sidewalk of Main Street on Jan. 13. The bag was placed in a bin to be destroyed.
  • A postal employee who wanted to remain anonymous told police that a co-worker was using a handicap placard when the person was not handicapped. The person parks their car in handicapped spots at the post office and in the American Legion parking lot. The person was told to call police if she saw the vehicle parked incorrectly again, and the post office was notified. The incident happened Jan. 14. The next day, police were called to Municipal Lot #7 on Woodside Avenue for a report of the worker misusing the handicapped parking permit again. Police found the car parked in a handicapped parking space with a handicapped parking permit in the window. Police spoke to the worker, who said the parking permit was given to his wife. The worker was warned, admonished and told that any more incidents would result in a summons being issued.
  • A beached boat, the Sand Piper, was found on Beach Avenue. The boat didn't have a registration number on it. The owner was aware the boat was beached and said he'd call Sea Tow to remove the boat from the beach. The incident happened Jan. 17.
  • A phone dropped on Pulaski Road was turned in to police headquarters on Jan. 18.
  • A vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree on Ocean Avenue on Jan. 18. There was no property damage, and the driver declined to have a MV-104A prepared.
  • Police responded to Main Street for a report of a gray car driving erratically. An officer told the driver not to tailgate vehicles, and the driver agreed. The incident happened Jan. 18.
  • Suspicious noises were heard coming from the attic of a home on Mar-Kan Drive. Police tried to see if things were OK, but the homeowner would not come to the door or answer calls back. The incident happened Jan. 18.
  • Northport Fire Department doused a kitchen fire at a home on Waterside Avenue Jan. 19.
  • A gray 2017 Acura was parked on the sidewalk of Main Street. The driver told police his wife has difficulties walking, so he thought parking on the sidewalk would make it easy for her to get into the car. The officer told the man not to park on the sidewalk anymore. The incident happened Jan. 19.
