NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Feb. 12 through Feb. 18.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Endy Canales, 34, of Huntington Station, was driving a black 2020 Mercedes Benz when he disobeyed a stop sign and nearly struck a pedestrian exiting a crosswalk at Woodbine and Fifth avenues around 9:40 p.m. Feb. 15, police said. Police continued to watch as Canales drove south on Woodbine Avenue at an "unreasonable high rate of speed" in a 25 mph speed zone, crossed over a single-yellow line several times and blew another stop sign at Woodbine and Beach avenues, where Canales then stopped driving, police said. The officer who spoke with Canales said his breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and sluggish, he was very unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test, police said. Undersigned observed an opened container, a 16-ounce White Claw alcoholic beverage and a bottle of Altos wine on the passenger floor board, police said. After Canales was arrested and brought to the precinct, he flailed his entire body while trying to prevent a proper search, police said. Canales refused to take a breath test, police said. Northport Rescue responded because of Canales' high level of intoxication, police said. Canales was released on an appearance ticket to appear at Northport Village Court for arraignment on March 11, police said. Canales was charged with driving while intoxicated, obstructing governmental administration, harassment and multiple vehicle traffic law offenses.
