Northport Police Blotter: Drunken Man Falls Asleep Behind Wheel

A flask was found in the running vehicle, and the man's BAC registered 0.22%, police say. ALSO: A deer suffered broken legs.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Feb. 5 through Feb. 11.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Ian Richard, 47, of Farmingdale, stopped in the lane of traffic at an entrance to a parking lot on Main Street at 6:20 a.m. Feb. 11, police said. When Richard wasn't moving, police approached him to check on him, police said. Police saw Richard passed out behind the wheel with the vehicle still running and a flask in his cup holder, police said. When the officer woke him up and spoke with him, Richard had the smell of alcohol coming from his breath, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred, and he performed poorly on the field sobriety tests, police said. Richard registered an 0.22% BAC, police said. Richard was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI.

Incidents

  • A reckless driver was behind the wheel of a silver Dodge Charger on Fort Salonga Road around 8:45 p.m. Feb. 6. An officer saw the Dodge speeding east. Police tried to catch up to the Dodge but could not do so safely. The Dodge was last seen heading south on Catherine Street.
  • Northport police helped Suffolk police with an active violation of an order of protection on Cornell Street on Feb. 7. Police remained until the situation was controlled.
  • A motor vehicle collision was reported on Fort Salonga Road on Feb. 7. Suffolk police handled the crash because it happened in their jurisdiction.
  • A dead raccoon was found on Locust Road on Feb. 8. Police disposed of it.
  • A motor vehicle collision was reported on Fort Salonga Road on Feb. 8.
  • Vehicles were towed for parking illegally on Fort Salonga Road on Feb. 8.
  • A motor vehicle collision was reported on Fort Salonga Road on Feb. 8.
  • Landscapers were using their leaf blowers at 8:24 a.m. Feb. 10 on Norwood Avenue — 36 minutes before the allowed 9 a.m. start time. Police told the landscapers about the change in start time, and they stopped working.
  • A child swallowed a hair tie on Terry Road on Feb. 10. When police arrived, the child appeared in good health with no difficulty breathing. Police told the parent the object would be digested naturally and unless the child shows signs of discomfort or difficulty breathing, there was no need for further police or rescue assistance.
  • An injured deer was reported on Waterside Avenue on Feb. 11. The deer had broken legs. Police euthanized it and notified the Town of Huntington to remove it.
