Northport Police Blotter: Hawk Attacks People On Main Street

The hawk was believed to be protecting her eyas, and a department was called to attempt to relocate the birds, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from July 12 through July 18.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Police on July 12 were advised of a hawk attacking people who were entering a building on Main Street. A hawk nest was found in a large pine tree to the left of the main entrance to the building and the hawk may be protecting her eyas. New York State Environmental Conservation Department was contacted and advised that the hawks were federally and state-protected and advised Northport police to contact the USDA Wildlife Services which would be able to notify the organization licensed for removal/relocation of the birds.
  • A man reported that a man he did not know pulled up alongside him while driving a black Jeep wrangler with tinted windows while the man was walking down Main Street. The two began arguing regarding a female who was not involved. The incident happened July 12.
  • A woman lost her diamond bracelet around 3:45 p.m. July 10 on the way from her car to Feed & Grain Restaurant on Main Street. She retraced her steps but could not find it.
  • A man was reportedly driving erratically and parking on the sidewalk of Main Street on July 16. Police spoke with the man in a barbershop, who said the power steering had gone on his motor vehicle and he was unable to park his vehicle properly. Police admonished the man as he was driving a vehicle that was unsafe on the roadway. The man said he was going to take it to get fixed and turned down the officer when he was asked if he wanted a tow.
  • A deer was hit and killed by a vehicle on Ocean Avenue around 9:30 p.m. July 16. The car was not damaged, and police disposed of the deer.
  • Police found a drunken woman laying down on the sidewalk of a pizzeria on Main Street around 11:30 p.m. July 16. Police called a friend of the woman to pick her up and drive her home.
  • Two women on a jetski got stuck on a sandbar on Duck Island Harbor. Police pulled the jetski off the beach. The driver drove the jetski back to Huntington Harbor. The incident happened July 17.
  • A dog was trapped behind a fence in a sump on Mar-Kan Drive in Northport on July 18. A person freed the dog, but when police approached the dog to see where it lives, the dog fled. Police searched the area but could not find the dog.
