Northport Police Blotter: Man Charged In Drunken Hit-And-Run Collision

ALSO: A cup of coffee was thrown onto a windshield following an argument over an unleashed dog, and a hurt deer was put down, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Jan. 15 through Jan. 21.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • John Carmody, 49, of Huntington Station, was involved in a collision on Fort Salonga Road when he backed into a vehicle in a parking lot around 5:50 p.m. Jan. 19, police said. While officers responded, dispatch told them one of the vehicles involved, a Mercedes-Benz work van with damage to the rear tail light, had left the crash scene and traveled eastbound on Fort Salonga Road, police said. Police found the van shortly after in a parking lot at 820 Fort Salonga Road with Carmody in the driver seat and the engine running, police said. Carmody's breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and sluggish and he was very unsteady on his feet, police said. Carmody performed poorly on a field sobriety test and could not perform more because of his high level of intoxication, police said. Carmody registered a 0.22 BAC, police said. He was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI.

Incidents

  • A woman fainted at Quality Medical Fitness on Jan. 15. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
  • A summons was issued to a vehicle parked illegally and partially blocking the road on School Street on Jan. 17.
  • A male was issued a summons for smoking marijuana in a running vehicle on Main Street on Jan. 17, police said.
  • A vehicle was seized per Suffolk County Local Law on Fort Salonga Road on Jan. 20. Police did not say why it was seized.
  • Police were called to Village Park on Jan. 20 for a report of an argument. A man said he saw a woman walking her dog without a leash in the park. The man said after yelling at the woman multiple times to put her dog on a leash, she threw a cup of coffee onto the windshield of his truck. Police warned and admonished both people, who then left the park.
  • Police euthanized an injured deer on Woodbine Avenue on Jan. 21.
