Northport Police Blotter: Woman Scammed Over Facebook Marketplace
ALSO: The woman was looking to rent an apartment and sent a deposit and "background check" payments before realizing the scam, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Sept. 23 through Sept. 29.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- A property owner turned a shotgun in to Northport police headquarters on Sept. 23. The owner said they were moving and did not want the gun anymore.
- A man was arrested on Sept. 25 in connection with driving with a revoked license.
- A summons was issued to the driver of a vehicle parked in front of a Main Street resident outside the parking lines, not in a spot, on Sept. 26.
- Police were called to Rutledge Avenue for a report of a suspicious delivery driver in a silver coupe on Sept. 27. A man told police that the driver knocked on his door and stated that he had a delivery for the listed address from "Bob." The man told the driver that he wasn't expecting any deliveries and instructed the man to get off his property. The driver complied and drove off in the silver coupe.
- A woman went to police headquarters to document an online scam. The woman told police she found an apartment for rent on Facebook Marketplace and made contact with the listing representative through the site. The woman was immediately contacted by an unknown number regarding the apartment and she began a conversation via text. The woman said the representative who contacted her then requested one payment of $295 as a deposit and two additional payments of $395 to process a background check. The woman agreed, and the fees were paid via Apple Pay. After the second background check was charged, the woman realized she had been a victim of a scam and immediately contacted her credit agency. The woman said her debit account has been put on hold and the credit union is in the process of reimbursing a total of $1,085.
