Northport Police Report: Suspicious Package; Marijuana Possession

Here are some of the incidents Northport Police responded to recently. None of the defendants has been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges listed below. All complaints in the report are only alleged crimes under local investigation.

  • A defendant turned himself into to police headquarters on a village arrest warrant on June 16 at 7:48 p.m.
  • While on patrol in Northport Harbor on June 15 at 3 p.m., police spotted a 10-year old passenger without a personal flotation device. The boat operator was issued a summons.
  • A Commack man, who was observed speeding in a 1999 Cadillac on Fort Solanga Road on June 14 at 10:45 p.m., was stopped by police. Police noted that the driver had a zip-lock bag containing a green leaf substance, which field-tested positive for THC – the main ingredient found in marijuana.The driver was issued two traffic summons and a field appearance ticket in lieu of arrest.

  • Police responded to the report of an attempted burglary on Clipper Drive on June 13 at 12:42 p.m. No other details were immediately available.

  • Police responded to the report of a burglary on Fort Salonga Road on June 12 at 4:09 p.m. No other details were immediately available.

  • Police responded to a report of a red pick-up truck speeding on Burr Avenue on June 11 at 7:04 p.m. Upon locating the vehicle, police issued summonses. The driver apologized for what was described as “his loud exhaust,” adding that he would cease such driving behavior.

  • Police responded to a report of a suspicious package on a bench on Main Street on June 11 at 9:30 p.m. The package turned out to be an Adidas backpack containing a basketball and handball.  Police canvassed the area in attempt to locate the owner but was unsuccessful.  The backpack and contents are being held at police headquarters for owner.
