Northport Police Report: Threatening Phone Calls, Criminal Mischief

Here are some of the incidents Northport Police responded to recently. None of the defendants has been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges listed below. All complaints in the report are only alleged crimes under local investigation.

Northport Police and Northport Fire Department responded to a report of a gas leak at a residence on Norwood Avenue on Sept. 22. The leak was detected from the stove, and the condition was corrected. The landlord was advised, and a voicemail message left for the resident advising of the entry to his apartment. The resident’s apartment was unlocked and no damage was incurred by the entry or the shutoff of the gas.

Police received a complaint of identity theft on Sept. 22. on Ocean Avenue. No other details were immediately available.

A woman was issued an appearance ticket in lieu of arrest for walking an unleashed dog. on Sept. 23.

A Huntington man was arrested on Sept. 24 for leaving the scene of an incident.

Police received a complaint of a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway on Beach Avenue on Sept. 24. Upon arrival, police located a bus trailering a boat on a silver metal trailer obstructing the roadway with no registration information. The Village Administrator the roadway must be clear to accommodate numerous tractor trailers using Beach Avenue gain access to the sewer plant. Police issued summonses. Both vehicles and trailer impounded to 9th Street.

Police responded to a complaint about a disturbance on Main Street on Sept. 26 at 12:23 a.m. Police found a woman attempting to leave a bar and locate her car to go home. Police advised the woman that it would be a poor life decision to do so and that its in her best interest to take a cab, which she did without incident.

A man on Sea Cove reported to police on Sept. 27 that there was an unauthorized charge on his credit card. When he contacted the Visa credit card company, they stated they would remove the charges and they closed the account and reissued a new card and account.

Police responded to a criminal mischief complaint on Norwood Avenue on Sept. 27. Police found a broken passenger side window to a Toyota. The complainant stated that unknown subjects broke the window and removed a pocketbook from the seat. The estimated damage to the window was 200 dollars. The estimated cost of the items stolen was 500 dollars.

Police received a report from a man on Sept. 27 who said he received four or five phone messages on his voicemail threatening his life. The complainant wanted a report for informational purposes.
