Northport Police Report: Woman Arrested in Ring Theft; Man Injured in Street Fight

Incidents and arrests, Feb. 2-9.

The following information was taken from the blotter. Where an arrest is mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. All persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Kelly A. Karman, 42, of Centerport was arrested on Feb. 6 and charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing a diamond engagement ring from a house on Church Street in October.
  • Police removed drug paraphernalia from the of the stairs at Gilbert Street leading to the Laurel Ave. school on Feb. 3 after receiving a tip from an anonymous caller.
  • A woman reported that she was lost and driving back and forth on Fort Salonga Road between the Sunken Meadow Parkway and Centerport on Feb. 3 when she was sideswiped by a white BMW that crossed over the double yellow line which fled the scene. The plate she provided, NY FLY 2008, was not valid.
  • A fight was reported in front of on Main Street around 4 a.m. Feb. 4. Two men with goatees in dark hoodies observed leaving the scene around the time the police arrived were reportedly involved in the fight, though they could not be located. Northport Rescue transported a man involved in the fight to Huntington hospital for treatment of a large head laceration and a contused right eye.
  • A man reported on Feb. 6 that one of his tenants allegedly took $1,490 from the bedroom of his Seaview Terrace residence while he was out running errands.
  • An Ocean Ave. woman reported on Feb. 9 that she has been getting numerous calls from an unknown woman at an unknown number who said, "stop calling me or I will press charges," and, "don't mess with me, I know your family." Police advised the woman that she may have fallen into a caller ID masking scam.
  • The successfully extinguished a chimney fire on Lewis Road Feb. 2.
