“We have an absolutely gorgeous view,” said Marie Gallowitsch, owner of Skipper’s Pub. “It’s kind of a no-brainer. There really isn’t any place on the Island that has a view like that.”
Marie and her husband Paul Gallowitsch have owned the pub since 1978. Their son Paul Jr. works as a manager.

The family-owned restaurant hopes to open a raw bar and a cafe on a 1,350-square-foot rooftop deck that fits about 100 people.
Most people are in favor of the rooftop dining proposal, Marie says. “Even other restaurants are supporting us. We haven’t had any real opposition at all.”
One resident, however, feels that a rooftop restaurant is a horrible proposal. “It will increase noise levels, pedestrian traffic, car traffic, decrease parking even more and make us even more of a zoo in that area of the Village,” Mary Silberstein told Patch in a Facebook message.
“Can you imagine the noise that will interrupt peace on Scudder, School, Woodbine, Bayview and also to the dwellers on Main?” she said.
The Zoning Board will hear the proposal at 7 p.m. in the courtroom of Village Hall, located at 224 Main St. The public is invited to attend.
