NORTHPORT, NY — The annual "Brave the Shave" event returned to Northport High School. The event was hosted by the school's national honor society on behalf of the St. Baldrick's Foundation, according to the school district.
Students and staff took turns stepping up to the podium to have their heads shaved in solidarity with children suffering from cancer. The school raised $52,732.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is dedicated to raising money for lifesaving childhood cancer research. Each school formed their own team which included captains, volunteers and donors. The family fun afternoon included a DJ, crafts, snacks, and of course, the exciting head-shaving event.

When asked why he decided to shave his head, Fifth Avenue student Joseph said “so no kid feels alone," according to the school district.
The event was done virtually last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the excitement
surrounding the return of the in-person activities helped draw one of the largest donations ever.
