Northport Student Named Distance Event Athlete Of The Year
Isaiah Claiborne is a state champion with All-American accolades.

For the 2017-2018 indoor track and field season, Northport High School athlete Isaiah Claiborne was selected as the Distance Event Athlete of the Year and was named one of two Most Outstanding Distance Runners by the USA Track and Field Long Island Association.
Claiborne ran the 1000-meter with a time of 2:26.95, just missing the Suffolk County record, and was named the state champion. As a member of the 4x800 relay, Claiborne’s time was 7:56.52. In addition, he went on to capture All-American accolades in the 4x800 and distance medley relays, as well as placing fourth in the mile at the National Championships.
Island-wide, three athletes were selected for each individual running and field event to comprise 1st, 2nd and 3rd team All-Long Island. Northport High School’s boys winter track and field team was ranked second.
