Northport Students Give Back to Underprivileged Kids
The students took items from their homes to donate to less fortunate fourth-graders in the Bronx.
Fourth-grade students at Fifth Avenue Elementary School in the Northport-East Northport School District recently participated in a special Thanksgiving project to give back to an underprivileged classroom in the Bronx.
The students collected stuffed animals, toys, puzzles, games and books from their homes and brought them in to give to less fortunate fourth-graders.
The three fourth-grade classes gathered in the school cafeteria on Nov. 18 to organize the items and worked as a team to sort them into bags.

Teacher Jean Kiley spoke to the students after the items were packed away. “These students have very little and it was really awesome of you to take things that you believe someone else would like and give it to them,” she said. “We are very proud of you.”
