Northport Village Board to Review Rooftop Dining
News Story, Northport Village Public Meeting on Rooftop Dining
NORTHPORT VILLAGE BOARD MEETING ON OUTDOOR DINING OVERFLOWS
Northport Village Board invited the public to a hearing, March 7th on THE EXCLUSION OF ROOFTOP DINING AT VILLAGE RESTAURANTS. The Amendment read “No restaurant, tavern, or bar shall be permitted to have outdoor dining or serve beverages including alcohol on the rooftop or roof of its building” This amendment was taken by Paul & Marie, Gallowich, proprietors of SKIPPERS PUB, 34 Main Street, Northport, as an attack on their request to establish rooftop dining on their premises. SKIPPERS is located a few hundred yards from Northport Harbor, and the Gallowiches feel rooftop dining would be great for the community and help their business as well. They encouraged customers in favor of assisting them to attend the meeting.
The Village Hall was filled to overflowing, with standees along the walls and in the lobby. There were over 150 in attendance. Mayor Doll called on most all the attendees to address the Board, with the large majority supporting the dropping of the amendment, thus requesting rooftop dining. Opponents were concerned about parking, noise, and blocked views from neighboring buildings while proponents were excited about having dinner with a view and how this might add to Village Commerce.
