Northport Village Earns AAA's Top Traffic Safety Award
Northport Village was recognized for having zero pedestrian, vehicle and bike fatalities for seven consecutive years.

The Village of Northport was the recent recipient of AAA’s top Platinum Award for their leading traffic safety program during a luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 13.
Northport was among four Platinum award winners in AAA’s Annual Community Traffic Safety Awards Program, which recognizes communities for their efforts to make roadways safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. The other four winners were New York City, the Town of Greenburgh and the Village of Irvington.
“We are pleased to honor our award winning communities that are doing such vital work to ensure that all road users reach their destinations safely,” AAA Northeast Director of Public /Government Affairs & Traffic Safety, John Corlett said.

Northport Village has had zero bike, vehicle occupant and pedestrian fatalities for seven consecutive years. There has also been zero pedestrian injuries, zero bike fatalities and a 16 percent reduction in vehicle occupant injuries in the past year.
Safer streets in the Village are thanks to the community’s commitment to the education, enforcement and engineering of tracking crashes.

At the ceremony, held at the Carltun in East Meadow, the local AAA affiliate presented a total of 43 awards. Northport’s award was presented to Police Chief Bill Ricca at the luncheon.
