NORTHPORT, NY — A Northport woman has started a foundation in the memory of her late sister, Chloe.

The Chloe Belle Foundation's goal is to bring joy to sick children and young adults who have been diagnosed with cancer, says Remi Lindberg.

"I am so excited and passionate about it," Remi told Patch. "It has helped me with my grief tremendously."

Chloe Lindberg died of a rare form of leukemia at 26 in January 2021.

Chloe loved children and worked in the children's room of the Northport Public Library, said Remi. The foundation named in her honor will also strive to help young adults between 18 and 35 years old battling cancer because Chloe was 25 when she was diagnosed with leukemia. Remi feels young adults are a forgotten demographic when it comes to charitable organizations, she said.

"My family and I started this foundation as a way to honor Chloe and continue her life work - making other people happy, leaving people better than when she found them and bringing joy," Remi said. "Chloe’s smile, laugh, sweet personality, soft-spoken temperament and positive disposition could do all these things in itself. But it was her care for all other beings that inspired the creation of The Chloe Belle Foundation."

The foundation recently partnered with Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone and is collecting brand new toys until July 23. The donations are slated to be brought to the hospital the following day.

The child life team at Hassenfeld has curated an Amazon wish list based on items they need for activities they do within the hospital, such as Bingo nights, as well as toys that the patients want. Donors can purchase directly from the Amazon wish list, and the items will be sent to the Chloe Belle Foundation headquarters.

Remi said the goal of the foundation is to create a legacy for Chloe, inspire others and continue Chloe’s life mission.

"My sister was my everything," Remi said. "There is not a second that goes by that I don’t think of her. The foundation has been an outlet for my grief. I could use the many moments I think about Chloe in sadness and turn it into something positive - all in Chloe’s honor. I have big dreams for The Chloe Belle Foundation. I want Chloe to live on forever. She deserves that. I want to bring Chloe’s kindness and love to the world on a large scale."

The foundation is also accepting new toys in their original packaging that are not purchased from the Amazon wish list.

In addition to the Amazon wish list, there is a drop-off spot at Larkfield Family Chiropractic, at 534 Larkfield Road, East Northport. The drop-off hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturdays.

Lori Badanes from Einstein’s Attic, a toy store in downtown Northport, plans to support the foundation with a community toy drive at the store. The toy drive is scheduled to run until July 23. Einstein's Attic is at 79 Main St., Northport.

"We are so grateful and excited!" Remi said. "We want to encourage donors to purchase their donations from Einstein's Attic. We want to support such an incredible store in Northport."
