Police Log: $1,700 Ring Found, Graffiti Damages Property

Monday, Dec. 5
At 12:49 a.m., police responded to a Main Street location for the report of a gas stove that wouldn’t turn off. The Northport Fire Department Chief arrived and turned off the gas line to the stove. The caller was advised to notify his landlord of the problem.
At 2:59 p.m., police responded to a Jay Court location for the report of a suspicious person in a vehicle wearing a surgical mask. Officers searched the area to no avail.

Wednesday, Dec. 7
At 12:14 a.m., police responded to a life alert activation on Malcolms Landing. Life alert dispatchers and officers were unable to make contact with the aided or listed relatives and there was no key on file. Officers forced entry through the front door and located the aided, who was semi-breathing and alert. The aided was transported by Northport Rescue to Huntington Hospital. Officers eventually made contact with the person’s daughter.

Thursday, Dec. 8
At 11:15 a.m., police responded to a Northwest Drive location for a report of graffiti. Officers found graffiti on a utility box and estimated the vandalism caused about $200 in damage.
Saturday, Dec. 10
At 11:34 a.m., someone turned in a ring into police headquarters that was found on Fort Salonga Road. The ring was described as white metal with clear stones and had an estimated value of $1,700. The ring was placed in a temporary property bin.
At 5:54 p.m., police reported criminal tampering in which someone’s vehicle was egged during the night on Fifth Avenue.
