Police Log: Brush Fire Caused by Cigarette, Flat Tire Leads to Car Fire

Sunday, Sept. 4

At 9:56 p.m., a man was transported to Huntington Hospital by Northport Fire and Rescue after he ran into a dog on a leash while jogging, causing him to trip and fall on Main Street.

At 1:58 p.m., a 39-year-old Huntington woman was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and trespassing on Doris Avenue.

At 8:51 a.m., police reported a car fire at Southdown Marketplace on Fort Salonga Road that was caused from the vehicle driving on the roadway with a flat tire for about one mile. The Northport Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. The NYS Department of Transportation was notified for possible damage to the roadway.

At 2 p.m., police received a report of juveniles on bikes ringing a doorbell at a Steers Avenue home for no apparent reason. Officers located the juveniles who were warned and admonished.

At 9:20 p.m., police reported a brush fire on Scudder Avenue that was caused by a discarded cigarette. The Northport Fire Department arrived to the scene and threw away the cigarette.

Tuesday, Sept. 6

At 5:22 p.m., police responded to a Turnip Hill Street home for a reported burglary.
