Police Log: Car Crashes Into Pole, Baby Deer Stuck in Mud

Monday, Jan. 9

At 3:11 p.m., police responded to Laurel Avenue School for the report of an abandoned 911 call. Police determined that the call came from Northport High School and it was determined to be accidental.

At 3:15 p.m., police received a complaint that a man’s neighbor on Highland Avenue has been constantly feeding his dog bones, which causes the dog to throw up. Officers spoke to the neighbor, who said he would stop feeding the dog bones.

Thursday, Jan. 11

At 3:55 p.m., police received a report of two baby deer stuck in the mud on Woodbine Avenue. Officers arrived to the location to find the deer running on the beach. No further action was required.

Friday, Jan. 13

At 12:33 p.m., police received a report of syringes on the ground on Scudder Avenue. An officer arrived and search the area but could not locate the syringes. The complainant was re-contacted for a more descriptive location of the syringes. The officer located the syringes in the parking lot and safely disposed of them.

Wednesday, Jan. 18

At 2 p.m., police received a suspicious event report of two kids standing by Laurel Avenue School. The kids told police they were waiting for their mother to pick them up. Their mother arrived and took both youths home. No further action was necessary.

Thursday, Jan. 19

At 5:53 p.m., police received a complaint from a man who said someone struck his parked 2015 Dodge at some point overnight and fled the scene. The vehicle sustained a scratch along the driver’s side and damage to the driver’s door handle. An officer was able to recover a piece of what appears to be part of the unknown vehicle that left the scene.

Saturday, Jan. 21

At 4:53 a.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed into a telephone pole on the northeast corner of Ocean Avenue. The vehicle was towed.
