Police Log: Driver Arrested for DWAI Drugs, Alcohol Following Crash

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Monday, Dec. 19

At 10:30 a.m., police reported a disturbance in the Laurel Avenue School parking lot in which a woman was yelling. Officers spoke to both parties who said they were not yelling and only having a discussion. They were asked to leave the school property.

At 1:56 p.m., police responded to a Burt Avenue location for the smell of gas. The Northport Fire Department turned off the gas due to a faulty stove.

At 9:37 p.m., a 17-year-old Northport man was arrested for DWAI by drugs and alcohol after police say he was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Ocean Avenue and officers could smell alcohol on his breath.

Monday, Dec. 26

At 4:28 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious circumstance in a woman’s Laurel Avenue apartment on Christmas Day. She said someone must have entered the locked apartment between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. that day. In the apartment, personal papers were moved on the desk, a filing box was overturned and a hole was slashed into her air mattress. Police inspected the front door and found no apparent damage. Nothing else in the apartment was touched, disturbed or taken.

At 10:02 p.m., police received a report of youth knocking down garbage pails and mailboxes on Norwood Avenue. Officers responded and were unable to locate the youths or find the damaged mailboxes and garbage in the street.
