Police Log: Homeowners Pour Chemicals on Car in Front of Their House

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Friday, Aug. 5

At 12:17 a.m., a 29-year-old Medford man was arrested for second-degree harassment on Woodbine Avenue.

At 1:12 a.m., police received a report that a large limb from a tree fell to the ground in the back of Giunta’s Meat Farms parking lot on Fort Salonga Road. A wooden fence belonging to a resident on Franklin Street was also damaged. Officers were unable to get in contact with the resident.

At 8:30 a.m., police responded to a Main Street location to check on the welfare of someone after they made a disturbing Facebook post. The person was taken to Stony Brook CEP for evaluation.

At 3:18 p.m., police issued four summonses and removed a license plate after a vehicle had a license plate that went missing from another vehicle. Officers saw the driver operating the vehicle on Fort Salonga Road before issuing a traffic stop.

At 9:06 p.m., police received a report of a down tree blocking the road on Scudder Place that damaged a car. Officers were able to move a tree limb to the side of the road and notified the highway department to remove the tree. The owner of the damaged vehicle was also notified.

Saturday, Aug. 6

At 9:29 a.m., police responded to a report of a dispute over parking the led to damage to a vehicle. Police said a man pulled in front of a Norwood Road location and was partially blocking the driveway. A woman began yelling at him to move his car and the man said he was about to move it when her husband came down the driveway and poured epoxy remover on the rear taillight and bumper, causing damage to the vehicle. The man told police he wouldn’t press charges if they agreed to pay him $100. The homeowners did so and the man signed a refusal to prosecute affidavit.

At 12:18 p.m., police received a report of a bench and shovel removed from a Hawkins Drive residentce. The items were located at Willow Beach. The homeowner told police this is an ongoing problem and she will be purchasing a camera.

At 1:13 p.m., police received a report of two people arguing about whether fishing is permitted from the Village Dock.

At 5:32 p.m., police responded to Fort Salonga Road to assist a box truck that had bottomed out and was stuck blocking the eastbound lane. A member from the highway department was notified and was able to pull the truck back with a pay loader.
