Police Log: IRS Phone Scam, Leaving the Scene of a Crash

Friday, July 29

At 6:35 p.m., police received a report of a possible drunken driver on Fort Salonga Road. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate the vehicle.

At 10:34 a.m., police received a report of a possible identity theft on Main Street. The complainant told police he received numerous phone calls from the IRS requesting to send money to a particular location to avoid penalties and prosecution. While taking the report, a phone call was received from the same "IRS official" with a foreign accent who was advised by police to cease his activities immediately.

At 3 p.m., police observed a man swimming in the channel while hanging onto his 12-foot blue kayak. The man was assisted by officers and was brought to Britannia Yacht Club, along with the kayak.

At 8:10 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of a crash on Maple Avenue.
