Police Log: Mail Package Theft, Drug Paraphernalia Found in Bag
Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.
Friday, Dec. 18
At 11:20 p.m., police responded to a Scudder Avenue location for a report of a man lying in the roadway. Officers determined the man was intoxicated and possibly suffering from an alcohol overdose. Northport Rescue responded and took the man to Huntington Hospital.

At 9:40 a.m., police reported a suspicious event in which a man on a bike placed a backpack in the woods and made phone calls on GIlbert Street. Police arrived to the scene and spoke to the man, who said he put the backpack down because he was ”cold and tried calling a friend to pick him up.” Officers could not located the backpack or the other person.
At 3:18 p.m., police received a report of drug paraphernalia that was found on Main Street. Officers arrived to to the scene to find a clear plastic bag on the ground that was filled with: two hypodermic syringes, one spoon with burn marks, one q-tip and multiple pieces of light blue paper. No drugs were found and authorities disposed of the items in the sharps container.

At 7:11 p.m., police received a report that a man’s cat may have been killed by his neighbor’s dogs on Scudder Place.
At 7:33 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious black bag in the driveway on Sea Cove Road. It was determined that it was a bag of leaves from the neighbor.
Monday, Dec. 21
At 2:04 a.m., police received a report of a person running away after stealing mail packages from a stoop on Catalpa Drive in East Northport. Officers helped Suffolk Police search for the subject and remained on the scene until the investigation was complete.
