Police Log: Man Hospitalized For Dog Bite, Baby Formula Thief

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Thursday, March 9

At 11:13 p.m., a 59-year-old Bay Shore man was arrested for second-degree harassment in relation to a domestic incident on Bayview Avenue. A woman told police her boyfriend pushed her in the chest and slapped her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground. She did not have any visible injuries but she did have some redness on her chest, police say. She refused all medical attention.

At 11:10 a.m., police reported a gas leak at a Main Street location. The Northport Fire Department responded to the scene and determined the odor was coming from the unlit pilot lights. Fire Marshall Tim Brojer said he would respond back to the location when the gas company is on the scene.

At 2:50 p.m., police responded to CVS Pharmacy on Fort Salonga Road for a report of larceny of baby formula.

At 4:10 p.m., police responded to Woodbine Avenue for a report of a tree leaning on wires. Officers determined the tree was leaning due to the snow conditions.

At 5:14 p.m., a man walked into police headquarters to report he was bitten by a large dog on Main Street. He said the dog was on the leash and was controlled by the person walking it. The woman walking the dog refused to give him any information. Northport Rescue responded and the man was transported to Huntington Hospital. Police did not locate the woman walking the large dog.
