Police Log: Man Seen Using Heroin in Car, Dog Runs Loose 2 Days in a Row

Monday, Nov. 21
At 2:34 p.m., a 51-year-old Commack man was arrested for second-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration on Fort Salonga Road.

At 12:04 a.m., a 26-year-old East Northport man was arrested for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument after police say he was seen using heroin in his vehicle on Laurel Avenue.
At 8:52 a.m., police responded to a Main Street location to check on a man after his friend said he hasn’t heard from him in a few months. Police spoke to the man who was not in any distress.

At 10:11 a.m., a man responded to Northport Police headquarters to report that he found money in an ATM machine at Cilantro, located on Woodbine Avenue. The man was issued a property receipt for the amount and was advised to contact police in six months about claiming the money.
Friday, Nov. 25
At 12:54 p.m., police reported that a man lost his wallet on Main Street. The wallet contained his green card, NYS driver license, bank information, credit cards and cash.
Saturday, Nov. 26
At 10:47 a.m., police received a report of a loose pit bull "scaring children" on Maple Street. Police recognized the dog from prior calls and returned the animal to his home to find the front door open with nobody there. The officer secured the dog in the residence and issue an appearance ticket for the dog’s owner.
Sunday, Nov. 27
At 8:24 a.m., police responded to a report of a loose pit bull on Maple Avenue, which turned out to the be same dog from Saturday. The front door of the home was once again open wide and nobody was home. Some of the neighbors told police the owner said he would be away for a few days. An animal control officer took custody of the dog and brought him to the Huntington Animal Shelter. The owner was notified and was issued a summons.
At 11:18 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious man standing by the front door of Riverhead Building Supply on Laurel Avenue. Officers responded to the scene and found the man sleeping on the ground. He was advised to leave the area.
