Police Log: Raccoons Chase Person, Suspicious Man With Balloons

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Wednesday, Aug. 31

At 11:06 a.m., police received a report that three raccoons were chasing a person on Main Street. The raccoons were gone upon police arrival.

At 3:45 p.m., police received a report that multiple street signs were removed from their posts throughout the Village on Main Street near Northport Village Hall.

At 10:42 p.m., police received a report for screams heard near Ocean Avenue School. Officers arrived to the location to find two youths with a guitar sitting in the soccer field. The youths left the area without incident.

Friday, Sept. 2

At 11:25 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious knock on the front door on Terry Road. It was determined the knock was a FedEx package that was dropped at the front door.

Saturday, Sept. 3

At 9:30 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious black bag behind a vehicle on Constitution Square. Officers arrived to the scene and determined it was a cooler being loaded into a car.

At 10:46 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious man with balloons on Constitution Square.

Sunday, Sept. 4

At 12:13 a.m., officers responded to a report of a fight at Ritz Cafe on Woodbine Avenue. A man was transported to Huntington Hospital by Northport Rescue to be treated for a minor head injury.

At 2:09 p.m., police responded to a Dolphin Lane location for a report of a sick or injured deer. Officers determined the deer was sick and euthanized the animal. The Village Highway Department responded and disposed of the animal.
