Police: Northport Couple Arrested on Drug Charges During Traffic Stop

Alicia Caparatta and Kenneth Taylor were arrested Monday night, police say.

A Northport couple was arrested Monday night after a trooper found drugs inside of their car during a traffic stop, State Police said.

According to police, a trooper pulled over the driver of a gray Lexus on the southbound side of Sunken Meadow Parkway in Smithtown at 9:30 p.m. for driving with a headlight out.

While interviewing the driver, Alicia Caparatta, 29, the trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana, police said.

A search of the vehicle yielded 10 grams of marijuana, 39 grams of concentrated marijuana and five narcotic pills, police said.

Caparatta and her passenger, Kenneth Taylor, 33, were each charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a felony), seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a misdemeanor), as well as violations for having a controlled substance not in an original container and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Caparatta was also charged with misdemeanor unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Caparatta and Taylor were held for arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
