Police: 'Suspicious' Large Bone Was Really Just a Dog Treat

Monday, Aug. 22
At 12:27 p.m., police responded to a merchant violating Village Code by blocking off parking spots on Scudder Avenue. Officers arrived to the location to find a fork lift and trash cans blocking off a public parking spot. The business owner was warned about the parking violation.

At 1:56 p.m., police received a report of an IRS phone scam on Jay Court. The call reportedly came from the number (210) 699-5672.
At 2:22 p.m., police responded to Nina's Pizza on Main Street for a dispute. A business owner was yelling at the pizzeria owner for allegedly owing his business $386 for products. The man was advised this issue would be resolved in civil court and he was told to leave the property.

Wednesday, Aug. 24
At 10:34 p.m., a Northport Village Highway employee was using a weed whacker when it kicked up a rock, which shattered a car’s window on Norwood Avenue.
Thursday, Aug. 25
At 12:06 p.m., police received a report of a man with multiple bee stings on Bluff Point Road. Northport Rescue arrived to the scene and the man refused all medical attention.
Friday, Aug. 26
At 12:35 a.m., police reported a suspicious event in which an intoxicated man asked someone for money and then got on a dinghy in a municipal lot on Constitution Square. Officers arrived to the scene and transported him to Northport railroad station by request.
At 6:32 p.m., police responded to Scudder Park for a report of the discovery of a suspicious large bone. Officers found the bone to be a large dog treat. No further police action was taken.
At 8:24 p.m., police responded to a report of an argument between a referee and a basketball coach outside NorthSport Athletic Facility on Fort Salonga Road. The verbal argument occurred after the coach was kicked out of the game for becoming increasingly angry, police say. Officers arrived to the scene to find one party gone on arrival and no action was necessary.
Saturday, Aug. 27
At 1:54 p.m., police responded to a report of a hypodermic needle found on the side of the road on Valley Avenue. Officers disposed of the needle properly.
