Property Tax year Begins December 1, 2020-for Huntington Township

Huntington Township continues to utilize a strict interpretation of who and who has a disability while issuing Property Tax Exemptions

Maryann Maltese, a Sales Associate with Cow Harbor Realty located at 67 Main Street, Northport NY discusses how Huntington Township denied Disability Applicants of their Disability Property Tax Exemptions who meet State Income Requirements for the present tax year. NYS Taxation and Finance allows those who are documented with disabilities either born with one or caused by a trauma to earn this year up to $37,999.00 as applicants are required to re-file for this property tax exemption annually.

If you are one of these individuals, I'm happy to review the application as Huntington should not be denying applicants who meet income requirements. I met with Lisa Leonick-an Associate Property Tax Assessor for Huntington Township who on behalf of Huntington Township denied me and perhaps you your disability property tax exemptions this year. Maryann Maltese is a tenured State Legislative Communications and Chief of Staff for multiple Legislators within NYS-and NYS doesn't hold a strict interpretation of what mets income requirements to be eligible to receive the Property Tax Exemption in NYS. As this is the case-why is the Township of Huntington denying applicants who meet disability requirements and meet income requirements?

On Huntington's Township portal-take a look at this:

Third Party Notification-Huntington is offering such a liberated aspect to have one's property taxes paid-but doesn't provide a Primary Homeowner with their rightful Property Tax Exemptions?! Check out the inconsistent information on the Township Website-I just reviewed today.

"Starting with the 1987-88 tax year, New York State began allowing certain taxpayers to designate a third party adult to receive duplicate copies of tax bills and notices of unpaid taxes.

Taxpayers age 65 or older (and taxpayers who are disabled) who own and occupy 1-, 2-, or 3-family residential property are eligible. To participate an eligible taxpayer must designate adult third party to receive the copies of tax bills and notices in writing and the designated third party must consent to such notification.
The application process is a one-time procedure(Oh No-Oh No, No, No, No, No-that's incorrect information-it's annual filing-not forever) and will remain in effect until the Tax Receiver is otherwise notified by the applicant. Download the 3rd Party Notification Application Form.

"Oh No. Oh No..Oh no no no no"-Flash forward by some Tic Tok'rs-perhaps we should dance the raft of this...Above is incorrect-so perhaps Ms. Guthman has the answer-if not Maltese sure does.

In other Counties of NYS-the local Tax Authority-like Huntington their role is to facilitate how NYS reads the Ordinance-and NYS generally speaking permits those who meet disability and income for years applied-are approved and issued property tax exemptions. During a Covid 19 Pandemic State of Emergency Orders directing us to remain home, work less, social distance; many of us are earning less who have "hands on businesses"-thus with our Personal Primary Property- we should be approved as applicants of Property Tax Exemptions. Why is Huntington Township is denying me or anyone else as well; if we met State Standards for the year in Question-sends the message of who is Bah Hum Bug!.

Email Huntington Township applying for your property tax exemption before December 1, 2020, to see if you can have this exemption or others applied to your Property Taxes which are due January 10, 2020-cc. NYS Department of Taxation and Finance and me, Maryann@cowharborrealty.com. I'll be happy to take a review of it-call if you're not sure. I always recommend handing in Property Tax Exemption applications as soon as you realized you're entitled. It's a tough year.
