Remember When Friendly's in East Northport Closed?

Friendly’s – the ice-cream parlor that serves up frozen treats, burgers and more – abruptly closed seven Long Island locations in Jan. 2015.

On Monday, J & B Restaurant Partners of New York, the Friendly’s franchisee in New York, announced it was closing the seven restaurants, including the East Northport location at 361 Larkfield Road. The announcement also included closings at locations in Farmingdale, Patchogue, Bay Shore, North Wantagh, North Babylon and West Babylon.

“These closings are regrettable; however the franchisee concluded that continuing operation was no longer viable,” J & B said in a statement. “Guests can still find 18 operating Friendly’s restaurants in Nassau and Suffolk counties.”

The company also closed sites in Copiague, Massapequa, Hicksville, Westbury.

Friendly’s, based in Wilbraham, Mass., filed for chapter 11bankruptcy in 2011. At that time, a corporate executive said that J & B Restaurant Partners would be keeping Long Island Friendly’s locations open with plans to open new restaurants on the island, Newsday reported.
