Responders Save 90-Year-Old Man Choking on Food in Northport Restaurant
The man was unconscious and not breathing when paramedics came to his rescue Monday night, police say.

Members of the Northport Police and Fire Departments helped save a 90-year-old man who was unconscious and not breathing from choking on food at a Northport restaurant Monday night.
Police say the man was eating at Northport Feed & Grain, located at 73 Main St., when he began to choke on his food at 7:11 p.m.
The food was completely blocking the man’s throat, causing him to lose consciousness and the ability to breathe, police say.

Once on the scene, a paramedic inserted a special interment into the man’s mouth and down his throat, which allowed the responder to successfully remove the blockage.
Members of the Northport Fire Department helped stabilize the man who was having difficulty breathing and then transported him by ambulance to Huntington Hospital.
Police learned the man is recovering well and is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days.
Luckily for this choking victim, the program to add paramedics to the Northport Fire Department was recently authorized by Northport Village in June and began July, 5.
