Search Continues For Missing Kayaker Near Crab Meadow Beach; Kayak Recovered

The Huntington Station man had only gone kayaking once before, a family member said.

The U.S. Coast Guard is searing for a kayaker who went missing near Crab Meadow Beach on Sunday afternoon.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound officials were notified by the Huntington Harbor Master that Selvin Vasquez-Enamorado, 24, of Huntington Station, went missing while kayaking at some point between 3 and 4 p.m.

Suffolk Police say Enamorado launched his kayak from a beach near Crab Meadow Beach to go fishing. When he did not return home around 6 p.m., a friend called notified authorities.

Police say the kayak has been recovered.

Enamorado's niece told Patch that he is not a regular kayaker and this was his second time.

  • New York State Park Rangers
  • Suffolk County Marine

Enamorado's family asks to be contacted if he is located. Their number is (631) 662-5953. He did not have identification with him when he went kayaking.
